"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." – 2 Corinthians 5:8
With heartfelt love and gratitude, the family celebrates the life of Mr. Dennis Martin Coles, Sr., who peacefully departed this life on October 3, 2025, at the age of 68.
Dennis was born on June 14, 1957, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to the late Jessie Coles, Sr. and Juliet Coles. He joined St. Luke Baptist Church in Skipwith, Virginia, at an early age, where he developed a strong foundation of faith that remained with him throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Bluestone Senior High School, Class of 1975, Dennis was known for his hard work, dedication, and humble spirit. He worked on the family farm and later at Russell Stover Candy Factory in Clarksville, Virginia.
Dennis enjoyed life's simple pleasures - fishing, hunting, and playing basketball - and could often be found riding around Clarksville with his best friend, Ray Terry, sharing stories, laughter, and friendship.
He was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jimmy Syndor. He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Veronica Coles (Lanard Kinyon) of Oxford, NC; Dennis Martin Coles, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; Clifton Antonio Coles (Lashauna) of Fountain, CO; and Makayla Coles of Lawrenceville, VA. He was blessed with nine loving grandchildren who brought great joy to his heart.
Dennis also leaves behind five brothers - Jessie Jr, Larry (Millie), Howard, Frank, and Tony - and two sisters, Barbara Wade (Reginald) and Rosa. His extended family includes three uncles, Albert Coles, Lloyd Coles, and Alexander Coles; two aunts, Marie Daniel and Josephine Baptist; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Among them, he shared a special bond with his nephew, Marcus Coles, and his lifelong friend Ray Terry, both of whom held a very special place in his heart.
Dennis will be remembered for his quiet strength, easy smile, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His life was one of faith, humility, and joy - a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though he is gone from our sight, his spirit will forever remain with those who loved him.
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 1:00PM at the Carter's Funeral Home Chapel; 206 Virginia Avenue; Clarksville, VA. Elder Charles D. Allen will deliver the eulogy.
