Dennis Dickey ended his earthly journey on May 12, 2023. He was a devoted servant of God, a loving husband/father/Papa/brother and a friend to all. The impact of his life can best be described in the following tributes from recent social media posts. He did "many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written" John 21:25
Chaplain Dickey will be most remembered for his ability to attract people to him and then he was able to leave a lasting impact on them. He made regular appearances at the office and he did ride-alongs with our deputies. He helped them have greater expressions of thought and emotions related to both personal and professional experiences of trauma and grief.
He was always there when you needed him, whoever you were. His advice and wisdom were legendary but he never pushed either on you. And when you came to him for his help after you failed to take his council, the only "I told you so" was the one you felt yourself.
My Papa was patient. My Papa was kind. My Papa did not envy or boast. My Papa was not prideful. My Papa was neither self-seeking nor easily angered. My Papa held no records of wrongdoings. My Papa was Love. He gave everything he had to everyone he loved and it brought him joy to do so.
He made a mark Dennis and Wende had that priceless love that you stand back and watch because it's pure magic. Dennis left his mark because that bar he and Wende set is high. When you see love like that you refuse to settle for less. He made a mark Dennis was THE dad. You know the one. The superhero dad. The one that you could see the love for his kids (and grandkids) shine in his eyes when he spoke to/of them. He's the dad his kids talk about with admiration, even when they don't agree. His love for his family will not die with him, but will live on for many generations to come because it was pure and deeply ingrained.
Dennis was no small man - BIG in stature, BIG in faith, BIG in heart, BIG in family - and BIG in the number of people he has helped and inspired throughout his lifetime. He was also BIG in love with his beautiful wife. He made a BIG impact on this world, in church and in his family.
He was a great person with a huge heart. My heart breaks for his wife and children and grandchildren and all the people he touched with his love, friendship, and knowledge over the years. I can't even imagine how many that includes.
A wealth of knowledge has just left this Earth.
He was an inspiration and the epitome of a good and faithful servant.
"We imagine he has already figured out how to wedge a cowboy hat on his head underneath his halo and is patrolling those streets of gold".
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Ben S. Dickey Sr., his mother, Juliette Lively Dickey, his brother, Ben S. Dickey Jr and his infant daughter, Shana Leigh Dickey.
He is survived by his best friend and wife Wende Dickey (Falcone), their children; Justin Dickey (Briana), Celeste Hollien (Brian) and Denise Wright (Bobby). His surviving siblings are Thaxter Dickey (Wanda), Angie Gifford (John), and Lorene Dickey (Terry Brose).
His grandchildren are Jordan Morales (Carlos), Ezra Dickey, Anthony Ramirez, Sarah Cornwell, John Cornwell, Chelsea English-Hollien, Taylor Hollien, and Morgan Hollien.
His great-grandchildren are Joshua Martin and Rylen Dayton. He also leaves behind numerous dear aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as countless brothers and sisters in Christ.
Memorial Services will be held 4:00pm Tuesday, May 16 at Botsford Baptist Church with Gordon Dasher, Thaxter Dickey, and Sheriff Alfonzo Williams officiating.
