Dennis Dodd, age 70, left this Earth peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends in Dallas, TX.
Dennis was born on January 26, 1955, in Sherman, TX, the son of Clifton and Billie Dodd. He grew up in Lancaster and Wilmer Texas, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family, which included six brothers and sisters. He began working at a young age, shining shoes and providing security at The Devil's Bowl in Mesquite and the State Fair of Texas. His passion for working on cars was inspired by years spent alongside his father. Dennis pursued a career as an auto body technician and worked in the body shop at Young Chevrolet for over 30 years. He knew the ins and outs of almost any vehicle, and if you ever had a question about your car, he was always happy to help.
Dennis was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and Papa. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family. On December 4, 1981, he married the love of his life, Carol Dodd, and together they raised two daughters and built a loving home in Mesquite, TX. He was a devoted father who offered advice, guidance, and unconditional love, never minding the hours spent at dance competitions and drill team halftime performances. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and laughter to everyone around him.
Dennis had many passions in life, including bowling, fishing, gardening, and antique cars. He loved sharing these interests with his children and grandchildren. His grandkids fondly remember his "Donald Duck" voice, and everyone knew his love for a good joke. His sense of humor could light up any room.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Carol Dodd; his daughters, Jessie Hernandez and Elizabeth Thorpe; and their husbands, Jordan and Chad. He was a devoted grandfather to Landry Thorpe, Raylan Hernandez, and Garrett Thorpe. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Dodd and sister-in-law Brenda, and his sister Rhonda Bell and brother-in-law Donald. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Dodd; mother, Billie Dodd; brother, Thomas Dodd; and sisters, Ola Lea Dewees, Sheila Lee, and Rita Dodd.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dennis's life during visitation at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel on October 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location. He will be laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery, located on County Road 273 in Terrell, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Stroke Association in Dennis's honor.
