Dennis Fields Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oak Ridge Funeral Care - Haines City on Feb. 22, 2025.
Dennis Murrell Fields, 76, of Davenport, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on February 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Columbus, Indiana, to Sidney Murrell and Juanita June Hoard Fields. Dennis moved to Florida in 1952.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Dennis served from 1969 to 1972, achieving the rank of SP5 and earning numerous decorations, including the ARCOM, NDSM, Ex (M-16), SS M-14, MUC (1st OLC), 2 O/S Bars, VCM w/60 device, VSW w/2 bz svc stars, and GCM (1st award). His dedication to hard work extended beyond his military service, as he spent his life working in construction, ultimately serving as a superintendent. Even as he got older, retirement was never an option-he loved what he did and took great pride in his work.
Dennis was a man of strong character, known for his hard-working nature, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and watching classic western movies. He was respected for his leadership, always keeping his crew in line with firm yet fair guidance. Those who knew him best would describe him as a workaholic, a jokester, and a man who had a special nickname for everyone. Though tough and sometimes stubborn, he had a heart full of love for everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Juanita Fields, and his brother, Michael Fields. Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife, of 30 years, Sharon Lee Fields; his son, Jason (Jennifer) Lowery of Ocoee, FL; his daughters, Pamela Mess of Matlacha, FL, and Kimberly Schultz (Russell Waring) of Vero Beach, FL; his sister, Susanne; his grandchildren, Shannon (Jesse) Witt of Lake Wales, FL, Robert Mess of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Gunner Lowery of St. Cloud, FL, and Sydney Schultz (Steven Pilkenton) of Fort Pierce, FL; and his great-grandchildren, Jordynn Witt and Sage Witt.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of his dedicated service. His cremated remains will then be taken to his final resting place in Florida National Cemetery.
