Dennis W. Flanagan passed peacefully in his sleep at Hills Crossing Senior Living Community in Nisswa MN. on September 3, 2023. A Memorial Service for Dennis will be held on Friday September 8, 2023, at 11:00am at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Visitation will be held one half hour prior to the start of the service at the Chapel. A luncheon will follow the service.
Dennis was born on December 12, 1931, in St. Paul MN to Harold and Irene Flanagan. He moved to Brainerd MN at age 12. He graduated from Washington High School in 1949. After attending Brainerd Jr. College for a year, he enlisted in the US Navy, following his older brother Pat who was a WW2 hero. Dennis served during the Korean conflict. Dennis had great pride in having served his country.
After serving in the Navy, Dennis met and married the love of his life, Marie Haff. Dennis and Marie celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last October.
Dennis tried his hand at business, operating a movie theater and later a bowling alley in Ironton MN.
During this time, he attended UMD where he obtained his Masters Degree.
After obtaining his degree, the family moved back to his childhood home in Brainerd and he started his 30 year teaching career. Dennis started at Riverton Elementary School, ending at Baxter Elementary. Dennis truly loved teaching.
Dennis enjoyed a long retirement Golfing, Bowling (Brainerd Association Hall of Fame), and being on the lake.
Dennis is preceded in death by his youngest son Shawn Flanagan, and his brother Pat Flanagan.
Dennis is survived by his wife Marie, his brother Larry Flanagan, daughters Scarlett Williams (Ulysses), Leesha Langerman (Dennis), Sons Bradley Flanagan (Chris), and Brian Flanagan.
Dennis also leaves behind beloved cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
