Dennis L. Horne Sr., age 79, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He was born in Quitman, MS, February 29, 1944, the son of the late Perkins Horne and Lucille Nicholson Horne. Dennis was a proud member of the US Army, where he received a National Defense Service Medal Expert (Rifle). He was a welder for General Electric for over 30 years.
Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, and the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time buying and selling items at flea markets around the world. Dennis owned and operated the first black owned convenience store located inside the Erie Central Mall.
In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by his son Dennis Horne Jr.
He is survived by his children Joyce Horne (Bruce), Brenda Boyd (Pierre), Pastor Dennis Horne II, and step daughter Maricia Ebright (Mark). He is further survived by his 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special acknowledgement and thanks to his 24 hour caregivers, (granddaughter) Kearraya Logan, (son in law) Bruce Wayne, and his daughter Joyce.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon, at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street, Erie. Burial will take place in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi.
