A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Norse Nest, 301 Washington St., Story City, Iowa. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Robert Dennis Johannes was born March 4, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Robert and Mildred (Walker) Johannes. He grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in the class of 1965. Following graduation, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for three years until joining the Iowa National Guard for an additional 20 years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On July 22, 1981, Dennis was united in marriage to his lifelong love, Cleva Ann Barnett. The couple made their home in Ames and treasured time spent traveling and attending horse shows. Dennis' passion for animals led him to a career as a caretaker for the National Animal Disease Center. He enjoyed playing roller hockey with his children and took great joy in watching them play roller hockey and many other sports as they grew up.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cleva Johannes; children, Jeffery Johannes, Brett Johannes, and Michael (Mikki) Johannes; stepchildren, Sharon Carlson, Brenda (Tobin) Lopes, Pamela (Rusty) Davis; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Joyce) Johannes.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Christopher Johannes; parents, Robert and Mildred Johannes; and brother, Lowell and his wife Jan Johannes.
