Dennis Hammond King, born on July 10, 1952, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on January 20, 2026, in Guilford County, North Carolina. Dennis's life was a tapestry woven with creativity, loyalty, humor, and love for family and friends.
Earlier in his career, Dennis channeled his creativity as an architect, crafting designs that stood as a testament to his vision and passion for building. His career path later led him to the bus manufacturing industry. He excelled over 30 years as the Lead Quality/Test Lab Technician at Thomas Built Bus's, ensuring that safety and excellence were at the forefront of his work leading to the safety of millions of children nationwide.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis was a man of many passions. Music filled his soul, and he found joy in every note, rhythm, and melody. The beach was his sanctuary-a place where he found peace and rejuvenation, the waves echoing the rhythms of his generous heart. A lover of animals, Dennis's kindness extended to the loyal dogs and cats that shared his life and brought him great companionship. He belonged to the Shriner's Club and The Lion's Club for several years to give back to his community.
Dennis was known for his strong will, a trait that was matched only by his unwavering loyalty and devotion to his family. His dry humor and sarcasm were legendary, bringing laughter and lightness to those who knew him best.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sarah Biggs King and Hector Hammond King, and his cherished wife, Margaret "Maggie" Gueth King. His memory will continue to be cherished by his surviving sisters, Pat Sheets (Howard), Cindy Lain (Andrew), Linda Goodwin, and Wanda King; nieces Jennifer Sheets, Karen Sheets, Andrea McQueen and Robin King; nephews Jason Lain and Jeremy Goodwin; 4 great nieces and 9 great nephews.
Though there is no public service planned, a private family memorial will be arranged in the future. His journey has touched many, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
