Howard Luther Martin, age 92, of
Kernersville, NC, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, in Kernersville.
Born on January 24, 1933, in
Mt. Airy, NC, Howard was the son of the late Lucille and Luther Martin. He graduated from Mt. Airy High School and continued his education at Brevard College and NC State University, where he studied Electrical Engineering.
Howard married Ruth Wheeling Martin, and after a brief time in Winston-Salem, they settled in Kernersville in 1971, where he lived for the remainder of his life. His professional career included work with RJ Reynolds and Western Electric before becoming self-employed. He specialized in designing electrical layouts for parks and recreation facilities, with a focus on outdoor lighting.
A devoted member of the Kernersville Civitan Club for 60 years, Howard was deeply committed to community service. He also served as a Winston-Salem Airport Commissioner for many years. Aviation was one of his greatest passions-he earned both his private pilot's license and instrument rating and remained an avid enthusiast throughout his life.
Howard was a faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville for over five decades, where he held various leadership roles that reflected his dedication to faith and service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruth; his sister, Katherine Martin Parks; and his brothers, Parker, Gaston, and Grey Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Mandy (Steve) Martin Adamczak of
Greensboro, NC; and three grandsons: Stephen (22), Parker (19), and Brooks (17) Adamczak, all of Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church in
Kernersville, NC, on February 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
