Dennis Eugene Lyons, 83, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away April 21, 2024. He was born November 30, 1940, to Arvel and Lorene Lyons in Oklahoma City.
Dennis was a sweet, fun, ornery man, and a great friend to everyone he met. He was a beloved husband and father. He was more than a father; he was a DADDY! It takes a special person to be a Daddy, and he was so very special. His joy was taking care of his wife and two girls.
Dennis graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958 and was a very proud Redskin. He went through the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Eagle Scouts. He spent a year playing football and attending classes at Kansas University. He came back to Oklahoma and married Linda Leah Seabolt-Lyons on September 10, 1960. They were both 19. Dennis joined the Army National Guard and served 6 years. He attained the rank of Sergeant as a Military Policeman. He served as a squad leader within the 745th MP Co based out of Oklahoma City. His training was in Fort Gordon, Georgia. He received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his contract. He then started working at Oklahoma Natural Gas and he worked there until he was 55. He also did land surveying drafting. After he retired from ONG, he continued doing the surveying and drafting for Hale's Surveying Company. He and mom wanted us girls to have our mom at home with us and that helped them do that and we are forever grateful for that.
Dennis was very athletic growing up. He played baseball through junior high and then in high school he started football. He was good at both sports. His senior year in high school the football team won the state championship. He was nicknamed Lil' Hog in his younger years due to his shorter stature and his strength, the team changed it to Hog in High School because he could plow any player down. He enjoyed many sports throughout his life including a bowling team, golfing, football, softball, baseball and even racket ball.
Dennis has been a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church of Oklahoma City since junior high and that is when he accepted Christ as his Savior. He attended there until his health wouldn't allow it. It was in Junior High where he met a beautiful blonde girl named Linda Seabolt, whom he liked from the start. They became quick friends since each of their best friends also liked each other and this began the lifetime foursome of Bobby, Margie, Lin and Denny, aka Bob and Marge Todd and Dennis and Linda Lyons. They raised their families together. They had a bond that will never be broken.
Dennis fought his battle with cancer with strength and courage. He was determined to beat it. He did twice. Then the 3rd time it appeared it still didn't win because it died. Dennis won because he is alive and healed in the presence of our beautiful Savior, Jesus Christ at HOME IN HEAVEN. We are very thankful for the PROMISE AND HOPE OF HEAVEN given to us through Christ.
Dennis was preceded in death by his bride of almost 58 years, Linda Seabolt Lyons, by his parents, Arvel and Lorene Lyons, his brother Arvel Lynn Lyons, his nephew Ronnie Lee Lyons, numerous aunts and uncles and his best friend Robert P. Todd and Marge Todd. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Julie Snyder and husband Pat Snyder, Lori Davis, and her husband Dwight. Five grandchildren Ryan and Chasity Snyder, Loren Snyder, Candon Davis and Jaxon Davis and 4 great grandchildren. His niece Teri Lynn Lyons, nephew Richard Lyons and wife Kathy Lyons, niece Rhenda Lyons and many great nieces and nephews.

Although I am somewhat younger than Dennis and Linda, I knew them well at Capitol Hill Baptist when they were in high school at Capitol Hill and I was in junior high at Southeast. We were all active in the youth groups at the church. They along with the Todd's were wonderful people. I am encouraged to read about the hope of heaven that has been planted in your hearts! Yes, we all look forward to that great meeting with Jesus. Thanks for sharing such wonderful memories. I am Bruce Magers and have lived in North Carolina all of my adult life after going to OBU.
