Dennis Mack Miller, known as Snook or Snookie to most, passed away early Thursday morning, July 31, 2025, at the home he shared with his beloved wife at Westbrook's Crossroads in Duplin.
A graduate of East Duplin High School and a native of the Scott's Store area near Mount Olive, after becoming an adult he relocated to the Winston-Salem area where he gained employment with the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and from which he retired after a loyal working career.
For the last 22 years, he spent his life with his beloved wife, Debbie, and her family. Stricken with Alzheimer's Demetia, she and her family lovingly cared for him until the last moment. As sad as the family is at his passing, they rejoice in knowing he has been made whole once more, and is in the reunion of family and friends on the other side.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Debbie Summerlin Holmes Miller; four children, Chris Holmes and wife, Jennifer, of Kenansville, Brandon Holmes and wife, Jessica, of PIkeville, Todd Miller of Winston-Salem, and Ashley Miller of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Wes Holmes, Mackenzie Holmes, Madison Strickland and husband, Hunter, Brayden Holmes, Allie Turner, and Macie Turner; a sister, Jackie Miller Stroud of Albertson; two brothers, Jack Miller and wife, Rose, of Winston-Salem, and Art Miller of Pink Hill; his mother-in-law, Nancy E. Summerlin of Kenansville; sisters-in-law, Mary S. Grady and husband, Milton, of Kenansville, Diane Pate and husband, Ronnie, of Magnolia, Betsy Miller of Kinston, and Dot Byrd of Mount Olive; brother-in-law, Ivey White of Winston-Salem; along with many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and other kin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie S. and Flora Herring Miller; brothers, Lewis Miller, Tommy Miller, Dave Miller, John Oliver Miller, John William Miller, and Edward Miller; and sisters, Peggy M. Creech, Kay M. Mason, Jewell M. White, and Patricia M. Howard.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, August 9, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, for a service to remember Snook's life. Officiating will be the Rev. Brant Jackson. Following the service, visitation with the family will take place.
