Dennis Shingleton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dennis Warren Shingleton, who departed this life on January 16, 2026, in Laramie, Wyoming. Dennis Warren Shingleton (Denny) was born on December 9, 1940, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Ella (Lake) and Lyle W. Shingleton. He grew up with his only sibling, little sister Nona, who he adored and was proud to be a big brother to. Throughout his years, he touched the lives of many with kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

Dennis was a cherished parent, uncle, spouse, grandpa, sibling, friend, comrade, and veteran. His warmth, humor, compassion, and wisdom enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. Dennis was known for his love for and commitment to family and country, his incredible investigation and hunting skills, his staunch belief in 2 nd Amendment rights, his love for mountains, wildlife, and the great outdoors. He taught gun and hunter safety to his family and many others. One of his greatest pleasures was teaching youngsters to hunt, fish, camp, hike, enjoy and treasure the great outdoors. Dennis inspired others through his actions and words.

Dennis attended and graduated from Laramie High School (LHS) in 1959. During one of his High School summers, he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Henrietta Holman. Dennis joined the U.S. Air Force right after high school and married Henrietta in summer of 1961. They made their first home in Mountain Home, ID, where Dennis was stationed. Nine months later their first son arrived.

During his Air Force service, Dennis was a proud Military Policeman (MP). He was a member of the deployment sent to San Antonio, TX, Lackland Air Force Base during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He made lifelong friends and enjoyed his travels with the Air Force.

After his honorable discharge with achievements, Dennis and Henrietta made their life and home together in Laramie. Dennis continued his passion for investigations by working in the Insurance Investigation business for sixteen years. Dennis then went to work for the City of Laramie Street Dept., where he was fondly known as "Doc" by his co-workers, for all his vast knowledge. During his twenty+ years with the City of Laramie, he made great friends with many co-workers, often spending time fishing and hunting with them. After his retirement with the city, he kept his time busy with many grandkids. Dennis' favorite past times were spending time with family and friends in the prairies, hills, and mountains of Wyoming and elsewhere. Hunting, fishing, camping, and teaching younger generations were his passions.

Dennis was proud father to three sons and a daughter. He was proud uncle to his two young nieces he helped raise after his sister passed away in 1975. He and Henrietta also took in a nephew some years later. He instilled hard work, honesty, integrity, and dedication to family and country in his children and countless other positive values. He was always there when a family member fell or needed his guidance. He was incredibly supportive and active with all his children's athletics and other activities. Dennis was incredibly proud that his children, nieces, and nephews represented all branches of the Military, Law Enforcement, Health Care, and Government Services professions.

Dennis is survived by his children: son Lyle E. (Diane); niece Winona (John); daughter Verda (Scott); niece Celeste; sons Tony (also known as Coach T) and Michael (Barb); nephew Shannon; brother-in-law Bob; sisters-in-law Verda and Elizabeth; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Ella & Lyle, his sister Nona, and his loving wife Henrietta.

Funeral and celebration of Dennis Shingleton's life will be held on Saturday January 24, 2026, at 11:00 am at Trinity Baptist Church, 1270 N. 9 th, Laramie WY Viewing for family and close friends will be held at the church 9-11:00 am, prior to the service. Graveside services will follow the church ceremony at Greenhill Cemetery. A reception with light lunch will follow at the Trinity Baptist church. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
