Dennis Stewart Smith

Dennis Stewart Smith of Chugiak, Alaska passed on Saturday, February 28, 2026, surrounded by family. He was 78 years old. Dennis was born January 19, 1948, in Lamar, Colorado to John and Carol Smith. He grew up in Baca County, Colorado. In his early 20's he moved to Alaska, and it was his life-long home. He was a brilliant man and was well known and loved. He worked as a diesel mechanic and a machinist and loved working with his lathe. His skills were un-matched, and he could manufacture any part with absolute precision. Dennis had four children-Michael Smith of Dove Creek, CO and Ronda Smith of Cortez, CO from his first marriage and Stephanie (Rob) Anders of Mill Creek, WA and Jennifer Smith of Orcas Island, WA from his second marriage. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as siblings Peggie (George) Cundiff of Grayland, WA and Virgil (Barbara) Smith, Jonna (Bill) Smith and Bonnie (Rod) Thompson all of Dove Creek, CO.  Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother and 1 grandson. A memorial service is being planned for early summer.
