Obituary for Alan Francis Leigh
Alan Francis Leigh, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Saturday January 10th, 2026, at his home in Chugiak Alaska. His life was defined by service, generosity, and a gentle humor that made people feel instantly at ease.
Born in Polson Montana, and raised on various farms in and around Newfolden Minnesota, Alan grew up with a strong work ethic and a knack for figuring things out himself. If something needed fixing, building, or improving, he was already halfway through the project before anyone else had found the instruction manual (which was rarely followed). He did however enjoy reading books, with his collection spanning many genres and topics.
Alan served his country as an Air Force aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War era and later dedicated his career to helping others as a Paramedic for the City of Anchorage, Alaska. Even after his medical retirement, he continued to give back through numerous volunteer works such as with the Anchorage Police Department Search Team and as an usher at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Helping others wasn't something he did - it was simply who he was.
He loved visiting new places, exploring the outdoors, and staying involved in his community, but his greatest joy was always his family. Along with his beloved wife Patricia of 38 years, Alan was the ultimate supporter, attending every event, performance, game, ceremony, or gathering his son or four granddaughters were part of. Alan was in the audience - smiling proudly, cheering loudly, and offering a thoughtful comment afterward.
Thoughtful and caring to his core, Alan also had a well-known love of shopping. He never missed an opportunity to find the perfect gift, whether it was something practical, something sentimental, or something that simply made him laugh. Giving was one of his love languages, and he delighted in surprising the people he cared about.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fern Leigh, and his sister Joyce Mann. He is survived by his wife Patricia Leigh, his son Brian Leigh and wife Michelle, granddaughters Stephanie and Lauren Leigh, Payton Dahle (Ryan), and Presley Martin. He also leaves behind his sister Yvonne Moe (Laurel), former daughter in-law Chrysti Leigh and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his steady presence and generous heart.
Those who knew Alan will remember him as a man who showed love through action, service, and showing up - always. His life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and the joy of giving, both in gifts and in spirit.
A funeral mass will take place Friday, February 6th at 4 pm at St. Andrew Catholic Church (16300 Domain Ln.
Eagle River, AK 99577), with a celebration of life following at the Eagle River Lions Clubhouse (18344 Eagle River Rd.
Eagle River, AK 99577).
