Bruce Alan Johnson

Bruce Alan Johnson, 69, of Eagle River, Alaska, fell asleep in the Lord on August 15, 2025.

Born on June 3, 1956, in Michigan, Bruce spent his early years in the Midwest before moving to Alaska in 1975, where he made his true home, rooted in faith, family, and community.

Bruce was a devoted member of St. John Orthodox Cathedral, where his Orthodox Christian faith guided and sustained him throughout his life. He shared 34 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Monica Johnson, who was his constant companion and partner. Together, they raised three sons-Eric (Hannah), Jason (Kristine), and Michael (Katie)-instilling in them the values of faith, perseverance, and integrity.

His greatest joy came in being "Grandpa" to his six beloved grandchildren: Lucia (12), Ian (10), Benny (5), Conrad (3), Maddox (4), and McKinley (2).

Bruce worked for Speedy Auto Glass for more than 30 years, where his diligence and reliability earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike. He later ran the St. James House for three years, where he found deep joy in serving and mentoring those who lived there. Following that, he transitioned into work as a flooring representative for both residential and commercial clients, building many meaningful relationships throughout his tenure. Bruce officially retired in January 2021, yet continued to live a life of service, leaving a lasting impact on all who came in contact with him.

Beyond his work and his faith, Bruce was deeply involved in the Eagle River hockey and golf communities, and he treasured his time at the family cabin-his "happy place"-especially late nights spent fishing. He also had a special gift for connecting with people, using his humor and authenticity to build relationships that often grew into lasting friendships.

Funeral services will be at Saint John Orthodox Cathedral in Eagle River on Wednesday, August 20: Visitation from 4:00pm – 5:00pm, Funeral Service and Burial at 5:00pm, followed by a "Mercy Meal" in the Cathedral basement. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. John's Orthodox Christian School (sjocs.org/payments).
