Dennis Ray Sprouse,80 of Verdunville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 2, 2025. A beloved brother,father, and grandfather, Dennis was born on September 8th, 1944 to the late Henry and Adna Sprouse.
Dennis was a Veteran, having served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1969. He served in the Philippines during Vietnam. Following his service, he was a coal miner for 25 years. Dennis was a devout Christian,and a member of Whitman Church of God.
Mr. Sprouse was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, Juanita Sprouse, Brothers Earl,John,Jerry,James and Bill Sprouse; Sisters Marcella Sprouse and Judy Fleming and Sister in law, Lilly Sprouse.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters Cheryl (Greg) Taylor of Dingess, Denise Sprouse (Johnny) Vance of Verdunville, Tina (Kelvin) Hensley of Garrett Fork, and Son Dennis “Mikey” (Elisa) Sprouse of Denver NC; Step-son John Sutherland of Monaville. Grandchildren, Christa (DJ) Baisden, Justin (Marie) Taylor,Tyler (Kelsie) Goble,Joe (Lynnzie) Conley, Cheyenne (Cody) Henry, Devin and Kaden Hensley, Adna, Hank and Emry Sprouse; and a Step-Grandson John Sutherland. Great-Grandchildren Ryleigh,Joselyn,Gabriel and Judah Baisden, Daphne Taylor,Easton and Emma Goble, Lilly,Delilah, Elijah, and Waylon Conley, Levy and Reagan Henry. Dennis is also survived by two brothers George (Linda) Sprouse and Tommy (Elaine) Sprouse, Sister-in-laws Gayle Sprouse,Pat Sprouse, and Sherry Sprouse, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis was loved by many and liked by all that knew him. His calm demeanor, hard work ethic, and love for his family will never be forgotten.
The Sprouse Family would like to express their appreciation to the medical staff at Logan Regional Medical center, and to Barbara Frye, Linda Cadd, Mary Watkins, and Shirley Cox for their support during Dennis’ final days.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services, also at the funeral home.
Dennis ‘Mikey’ Sprouse, Justin Taylor, Tyler Goble, Devin and Kaden Hensley, DJ Baisden, Johnny Vance, and John Sutherland will serve as pallbearers.
