Dennis Stewart Woody

DURHAM – Dennis Stewart Woody, 63, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Durham County to the late Dale Arden Stewart Woody and Charles Erwin Woody. He was also preceded in death by his brother, David Woody.
Dennis devoted 43 years of service to Duke University, where he worked as a Control Systems Engineer. His long career reflected not only his technical skill, but his dedication, reliability, and pride in his work.
Dennis was known by family and friends as a true "Mr. Fix-It." Whenever something was broken or needed repair, he was the one everyone called - and he always had a solution. He was also a great cook, often preparing meals that brought people together, just as his personality did.
He loved NASCAR, fishing at the beach, and tinkering on small projects in his garage. Dennis had a contagious smile, a great sense of humor, and was genuinely fun to be around. Those who knew him remember him as a kind, approachable, and all-around great guy.
Above all, Dennis cherished his family. He especially loved being "Papa" to Avery and was a devoted dog dad to Wrigley.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Whitney Pond Woody; his son, Hunter S. Woody; his step-daughter, Kelly (John) Sullivan; his step-son, Jordan R. (Erika) Young; his grandchild, Avery Young; his brother, Jeff Woody; his sister, Denise (Ed) Cooke; his sister-in-law, Anna Woody; and his many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 15, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, officiated by Pastor Boyd Pickard. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Duke HomeCare & Hospice.
