SALEM -

MOUNT PLEASANT- Dennis J. Swarthout, 72, died Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Dennis was born at Chariton, Iowa on August 2, 1950, to Jean and Darlene (Luke) Swarthout. He graduated with the 1968 class of Chariton High School and continued his education at Indian Hills for computer programing.

They lived in Indianola moving to Mount Pleasant in 1984, when Dennis became the Director of Administration for A & D Management. The couple moved to Salem in 2000.  Dennis enjoyed golfing, turkey and deer hunting, and putting puzzles together. More than anything, Dennis loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Noon Rotary and National Wildlife Turkey Federation. Dennis was involved with Junior Achievement, coached little league and was an avid baseball fan.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Becky; two sons, Craig Swarthout of Mount Pleasant and Derek (Amy) Swarthout of Aiken, SC; three grandchildren, Megan (Will) Holbrook, Kelsey (Bowen) Smith, and Ryan Swarthout; one brother Doug (Collette) Swarthout of Chariton; and two sisters, Cheryl (Ken) Kline of Chariton and Cyndi Wilkinson of Cheyenne, WY.
