Dennis Craig Thomas, a cherished soul who embraced life with warmth and simplicity, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 78, in his beloved city of Portland, Oregon. Born on June 29, 1947, Dennis filled his years with a passion for connection and the joys of daily life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and camaraderie.

Throughout his journey, Dennis dedicated a number of years to working as an off-bearer at Barker Manufacturing, showcasing his strong work ethic. However, after being classified as disabled, Dennis found new ways to enjoy life and connect with those around him, leaving an indelible mark on his community.

He was known for his love of walking through his neighborhood, always ready for a friendly conversation and eager to engage in discussions about current events. Dennis had an unrivaled ability to make those around him feel seen and valued, always happy to see friends and neighbors with his inviting smile and gentle demeanor.

Education played a significant role in Dennis's life, with early schooling at Applegate Grade School and later at Benson High School setting the foundation for his inquisitive spirit. His interests and pursuits reflected his ever-curious nature, which stayed with him throughout his life.

One of the most significant relationships in Dennis's life was with his aunt, Anna Lee Walton. Anna was a pillar of support and companionship for him until her passing, providing not only entertainment but also nurturing meals and unwavering love. Her presence enriched his life immensely, and her influence is fondly remembered.

Dennis's personality was a blend of independence and warmth; he cherished the freedom of walking alone, making the world look easy and accessible. He embraced life on his own terms while welcoming others into his circle.

Dennis's proudest accomplishments will resonate beyond the years he lived—he will be remembered for his gentle spirit, for the meaningful conversations he shared, and for the way he engaged with the world around him. He formed genuine connections that left a lasting impact on the hearts of those who knew him.

Dennis is survived by his brother, Thomas C. Thomas, and sister-in-law, Joyce M. Thomas; his nephew, Gregg J. Thomas; niece, Michelle Thomas; nephew, Michael Johnson; niece, Kimberly Johnson; cousins, Sheryl McLaughlin and Nora Lahmers; along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Virginia Johnson; his father, Herbert Thomas; his stepfather, Paul Johnson; and his brother, Michael Paul Johnson. While their absence creates a void, the love and memories they shared will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew Dennis.

A Crypt-side Service will be held in his honor on September 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a small reception at Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate a life that, though it may have ended, will continue to inspire through the stories and memories it created.
