Dennis R. Trottier, 82, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and son under the care of hospice.
Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, where Dennis met and married the love of his life, Linda Rising, on October 24, 1964. They shared over 60 wonderful years together. He was the son of Roland and Almira Trottier, Canadian immigrants who raised him speaking French as his first language.
Dennis is survived by his cherished wife, Linda; his son Timothy and wife Kristen, of Deer Park, Washington; his son Robert and wife Patty, of Bristol, Connecticut; and four grandchildren: Danielle, Jessica, Nicholas, and Justin.
He cherished many childhood summers vacationing with his parents at the family farm in Trois-Rivières, Québec, where he made lifelong memories with his father's twelve siblings and their families. A proud graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, class of 1961, Dennis went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a radioman aboard several ships including the USS Enterprise and USS Forestal. His first deployment was to Port Lyautey, Morocco and he later played a key role in translating morse code and tracking Russian ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Dennis retired in 1993 from the Southern New England Telephone Company as a project manager licensed as an E-1 electrician. He enjoyed the time he spent working for the phone company, particularly in New Haven, Connecticut, on the campus of Yale University. His post-retirement career included roles at Connecticut On-Line Computer Company, Harbortown Marina in Fort Pierce, Florida, and as Director of Communications for the Town of Jupiter, Florida.
He raised his family in Southington, Connecticut, before relocating to Port Saint Lucie Florida in 1994, where he and Linda enjoyed over 30 years of retirement together. A lifelong ham radio enthusiast and master telegraph key operator, from his teenage years, Dennis connected with people from around the world through Morse code. His passion for electricity, electronics, and telecommunications was unmatched, and he was always the go-to expert for his family.
A celebration of life will be held in Connecticut in the summer of 2026 for family and friends.
