Dennis Walchek

Funeral services for Dennis E. Walchek age 84 of Wisner, NE will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. Interment with Military Honors will be in Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dennis passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his home.
Dennis E. Walchek was born on October 13, 1940 at Sioux City, IA to Edward and Dorothy (Chambers) Walchek. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and completed his nursing training at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE. Dennis completed his Anesthesiology training from Mt. Carmel Anthesis School in Detroit, MI.
On September 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Dorolynn Albers at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 17, 1964. He served many overseas and stateside tours during his career and during Vietnam he served under Retired Major General Hal Moore. Dennis retired from the Army as a Colonel on August 31, 1990 obtaining many citations and medals including the Legion of Merit and the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars.
Dennis and Dorolynn retired to Wisner, where Dennis continued to work in Omaha, Fremont, and Columbus, where he was the Vice-President of Nursing at the Columbus Hospital.
Dennis was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5767, and the Wisner Lions Club. They enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona. Dennis loved to play golf, read, playing bridge, and cooking.
