COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Gary Denton "Denny" Richardson, a revered member of the Cookeville community and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 19, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center at age 83. He was born on August 11, 1941, in Willow Grove, Tennessee, and was a proud alumnus of Algood School, where he actively played basketball.
Denny dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to serving as a Bunny Bread salesman, a role that was emblematic of his commitment to hard work and community engagement. Outside of his career, he was deeply invested in the life of Willow Avenue Church of Christ, where he participated in and led numerous ministries. His exemplary service included driving the church bus to transport shut-ins to services, overseeing a meal program that provided compassion to countless individuals, and spearheading disaster relief efforts for victims of fires and other emergencies. Many knew him for his benevolence, which extended to creating fruit baskets for those in need and donating a substantial amount of medical equipment to the CRMC Foundation, thereby aiding families lacking health insurance coverage.
Denny had a vibrant personality and a multitude of interests. He was known for his enthusiasm for estate sales, auctions, and yard sales, where he enjoyed not only buying and selling but also sharing his finds with friends and family. Gardening was another passion of his, as he enjoyed giving away the fruits of his labor to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Floy Stidham Richardson, of Cookeville; his sons, Stephen Richardson and Matthew Richardson, both of Cookeville; and his beloved grandsons, Cameron and Colby Richardson. Denny's legacy is carried forward by his family, which he cherished above all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Beulah Stover Richardson; his brothers, James and Keith Richardson; and his sisters, Jewell Hensley and Margaret Richardson.
There will be a Funeral Service for Mr. Richardson at 1pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Clarence DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery with Danny Richardson, Michael Richardson, Kenneth Masters, Kenny Stover, Joe McCormick and Ronnie Hancock serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8pm and again on Saturday from 12pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Denny Richardson will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, remembered for his unwavering generosity, community spirit, and profound dedication to his family and faith.
