Dereck Ryan Smith

Dereck Ryan Smith, age 30, of Royal, died Thursday, June 16, 2011. He was born on April 11, 1981 at Elk City, Oklahoma, the son of Donald Gene Smith and Betty June Crow Smith. Dereck was soft spoken, gentle spirit that loved God and his family, and home was his shelter. He had a special way of letting you know that you were loved and he enjoyed sending hand-made cards to his mom and dad. He graduated Lake Hamilton High School in 1999 and attended the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dereck was employed at Western Auto where he worked with his dad and two brothers. He attended Hot Springs Family Church where he enjoyed playing the bass guitar. Dereck is survived by his parents, Donald and Betty Smith of Royal; his son, Hayden Cooper Smith of Hot Springs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Smith and his wife, Laura of Royal, and Donald Eric Smith and his wife, Katy and their children Drew, Lane, Matty and Alex all of Royal. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 20, 2011 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Rev. Lafoy Parker officiating.
