Derek Antonio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Mortuary - Turlock from Jan. 9 to Jan. 10, 2026.
On the afternoon of January 2, 2026, Derek Anthony Antonio, age 40, entered into eternal rest. Born and raised in Modesto, California, Derek developed a love of anything bike related early on. His passion persevered through childhood and when he graduated from Beyer High School in 2003, Derek pursued his love for mechanics by attending MMI Institute in Arizona. After schooling, he became a pawn broker in Sonora, then Modesto, serving integral roles in the operations of each.

At 26, when he became a proud father, Derek's lifelong love for motorcycles and dirt bike racing became genetic. Whether working on engines or racing on the track, his greatest joy was teaching his boys how to ride, sharing with them the passion that always meant so much to him. Derek is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, José and Elvira Antonio.

He is survived by his loving partner, Shayna Burdick; his three children, Cameron (14), Benjamin (5), and Catherine (4 mos); his mother, Maria Antonio; his stepfather, Sam Newnam and his siblings, Jennifer Butcher, Esmeralda Newnam, and Jacob Newnam. He is additionally survived by extended family members and many friends who were more like brothers. He is so widely loved and will be immensely missed.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Allen Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Allen Mortuary, with burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
