Born on July 18th 2003, in Wayne General, New Jersey. Derek was raised in Paterson and was a proud graduate of Eastside High School. Following his graduation, he honorably enlisted in the United States Army. Through his dedication and service, Derek attained the rank of Specialist and served with the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Derek was the beloved son of Derek Meza, Sr. and Shirley Meza (née Hidalgo) of Paterson. He was the loving brother of Steven Meza of Paterson and Sharon Flores, and her husband Adonis Liz, of Saddle Brook.
Derek will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and kind heart, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Forever in our hearts.
Funeral with depart at 9:00am on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, for a 9:30am funeral mass at St. Paul's R.C. Church in Prospect Park. Interment will follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00pm.
