"To Those I Love"
If I should ever leave you whom I
love, grieve not, nor speak of me
with tears, but laugh and talk of
me as if I were beside you.
And when you hear "James Connolly"
or see a hummingbird, please do not
let the thought of me be sad...
For I am loving you just as I
always have...
You were all so good to me!
There are so many things I wanted
still to do-
So many things to say to you...
Remember that I did not fear...
It was just leaving you that was so
hard to face...
We cannot see Beyond...but this I
know; I loved you so ' 'twas heaven
here with you!
Uncle Dermot-
Although my heart is broken, when I
think of you I smile. There will
never be another like you, but we
were all so lucky to have you in
our lives.
Thank you..
for the stories and the songs.
for the endless laughter and joy.
for your passion and your pride.
for your theories on life.
Finally, thank you for loving me.
Your memory will live on - you are
forever in my heart.
Your loving niece-

In the end, Uncle Dermot brought
us together to celebrate his legacy
of pride in our culture, and fierce
love of family and friends.
I pray that because of him, and
as a tribute to him, we will one
day be able to replace our sorrow
with memories of laughter.
Our lives will never be the
same again.
I will miss you always
Your loving niece,
Siobhan

My uncle and godfather was a
cherished character to his family,
friends, and countless others. For
nearly thirty years, I was
privileged to be a part of his
world, and struggle to recall one
single DULL moment shared between
us. When we weren’t discussing
(debating!) politics, we would
often find ourselves immersed in
song. Like all of you, I will miss
Dermot and never forget him...
Uncle Dermot,
I offer this song in your memory.
Long may your legacy live through
the ages!
With Love & Admiration Always,
Sean
"THE MIGHTY GENERAL"
(VERSE 1)
From County Kerry hailed a precious
favorite son,
Whose world was no smoother than the
the snap of a gun.
But he had a special gift that
touched us all.
Without his fiery voice, a quiet
day has dawned.
(CHORUS)
On New York streets and roads, and
in Kenmare,
The sad news spread across the sea
and land:
"The Mighty General’s gone – he’ll
sing no more.”
And, Dermot Tuohy, how we know
we’ll never see your likes again.
(VERSE 2)
He liked to laugh and sing, and
shout "Up the ‘RA!"
And his yarn spun far and wide,
throughout homes and bars.
With many a rebel tune stored in
his soul,
He’ll never leave our hearts as we
grow tired and old.
** repeat chorus
(VERSE 3)
Now the show is over, and the
curtain’s drawn.
A flame no longer burns beyond his
cabin door.
As the River Roughty flows and
Tuohy Mountain stands,
We’ll salute the Mighty General –
for all his tales and the life he
lived.
(repeat chorus)

Someone once said that to be Irish
is to know that in the end the
world will break your heart. Today
after leaving you my heart is
broken.

Dermot was such a technicolor,
whirlwind part of my younger life
that I will never forget him. He
lived life to the full and looked
adversity in the face as just
another challenge to enjoy. His
heart was as big as his stories
were tall and he loved as he lived,
unsparingly, without reservation
and at full honest voice (with lots
of wee folk mischief thrown in for
good measure). I will miss him and
treasure the all too few joyous
moments we had together, learning
to be unafraid and to "Just Do
It!", long before the Nike swoosh
was even thought of. He ate when
he was hungry and drank when he was
dry, and played and loved fiercely
whether his wonderful wife and
children, all his family, both of
his countries, and his God (with
some fear there). Like a life-
force, his spark will be missed and
only the good times recalled! May
he be having a fine cigar in the
company of the Almighty this very
day, at peace at last and awaiting
for our prayers to bring him home.
God Bless him and embrace him to
His all loving and merciful bosom,
as the lost lamb or the prodigal
son, for all eternity.
