THE VILLAGES, Fla. - Robert William Ritchie, 85, of The Villages, Fla., passed away peacefully, April 28, 2025. Born in Troy, N.Y. on June 17, 1939, he was the son of Robert A. Ritchie and Lillian C. Ritchie. Mr. Ritchie proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, and subsequently pursued a career as a Sales Manager for the Times Union. In his retirement, he remained actively engaged in his community, holding positions as a longtime member and Commander of the American Legion, and as a member and Exalted Ruler of the Elks. He also contributed his expertise as a member of the Board of Directors for the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Ritchie possessed a profound appreciation for golf, bowling and thoroughbred horse racing, interests he enthusiastically shared with numerous friends and family throughout his life. Bob loved spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Ritchie; and his stepson, Keith B. Hedge.
Mr. Ritchie is survived by his children, Ellen A. Ritchie, Robert W. Ritchie III, Tricia J. Schmidt (Donald), and F. Darrell Ritchie (Sarah); and their mother, Patricia N. Iacovelli. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Deidre (Joe), Ondrei, Willow, and Lillian; his stepson, Kent B. Hedge (Dorata); his daughter-in-law, Susan Hedge; his step-grandchildren, Tyler, Sydney, Garrett, Melodie, and Alek; his sister, Sharon R. Kelly (Karl); and his brother, Leonard C. Ritchie (Nancy). Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was a cherished friend and devoted grandfather.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Maplewood Cemetery, located at 3035 N.Y.-50, Saratoga Springs (Weibel Ave and Louden Rd.). All are invited to attend.
