Derrick Syvester Ghee Sr., beloved son of Hattie and Galveston Ghee, and loving husband of Bernice Brewer, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 28, 2025. He was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in Jackson, New Jersey where his life journey began and the foundation of his strong values were formed.
Derrick devoted more than 40 years of his life to the trucking industry, a career that reflected his determined work ethic, dependability, and commitment to providing for his family. Through decades of long hours and countless miles on the road, he remained proud of his profession and the life he built.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Brewer, and his six children: Mark, Michael, Valerie, Derrick Jr., Darrell, and Dale. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Janice Smith, Carol Waller, Arlington Ghee, Anthony Smith, Alfred Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Freddie Smith.
Derrick was a deeply loving and devoted grandfather whose greatest joy came from his family. He took immense pride in his 26 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved unconditionally and who cherished him dearly in return.
Derrick will be forever remembered for his warm spirit, gentle guidance, infectious laughter, and uplifting presence. His love, wisdom, and strength created lasting memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
