Derrick Hurst Obituary
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rhonda Clouse Hurst; son, Colby Hurst; father, Horace Hurst; sisters-in-law, Renee (Ben) Barnes and Rachelle (Daniel) Ford; four nieces; in-laws, Delbert (Pat) Clouse; and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was a member of the Watauga Baptist Church. He loved all the congregation members, his family and friends.
He established and operated Hurst Guaranteed Dry Incorporated, a basement waterproofing and encapsulation company for over 20 years. He became an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance in 2021. He loved to work, ride motorcycles and watch movies.
The family will receive friends at Macon Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 18. A funeral service will be held at Watauga Baptist Church Saturday, July 19, at 2 p.m. Rev. Roy Lowe, Dr. Wesley Price, Rev. Thomas James and Rev. Danny Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Barnes, Daniel Ford, Jason Casada, Tres Rogers, Joe Culpepper and Mark Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Hedden, Tristan Ammons, George Roper, Doug Johnson, Dennis Johnson and Kirk Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Watauga Baptist Church Mission Fund, PO Box 2022, Franklin, NC 28734; Gideons International, PO Box 372, Franklin, NC 28744; Four Seasons Foundation Angel Fund (see website); or make a check payable to the Tisch Brain Tumor Center, put in memory of Derrick Hurst on the memo line and mail to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC 3624, Durham, NC 27710.
