I am so thankful to have been able to serve God alongside Derrick in the audio ministry at New Life Worship Center for 10 years. He always had a willing heart. Willing, to help, willing to serve, willing to talk, and he always had peppermints that he would leave in the areas that he served. I began referring to it as the peppermint ministry. He loved his Indiana teams, and I love my Wisconsin teams which always lead to good conversation. He was truly a blessing and will be missed dearly. Praying for his family in this difficult time.

Mr. Derrick was a kind and loving man. Though we were not blood, he was family. I send my deepest love and condolences to the family. He will certainly be missed.

Doreen and family,
I've known Derrick for years. He was on the Wellness Committee for years with me and at times he would help me do the encouragement sayings with chalk on the sidewalks around the entire river course. He always had such a friendly disposition, was always so upbeat, and I loved his huge smile. I will miss seeing him. I am still i shock. I can't imagine how you all feel. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

My heart breaks as I contemplate what losing someone as wonderful as Derrick Mitchell will mean to his family, friends, church members and co-workers. Derrick represented the best of humankind. Derrick was always kind, generous, thoughtful, respectful and loving. His conversations were full of enthusiasm and encouragement. Derrick's smile was contagious and genuine.
I remember working with Derrick while he was our chairperson of the Roudebush VA's Black Emphasis Program Committee. He spearheaded our Thanksgiving basket distribution for veterans, our Martin Luther king Jr and Black history month programs. Derrick consistently received praise and accolades for his commitment and dedication to help our veterans.
To Derrick's wife, Doreen, Cassie and family, I offer my sincere condolences and pray you feel God's love and comfort as you mourn the loss of our dear Derrick who will be greatly missed.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. My deepest condolence to the Mitchell Family, when I heard that Derrick had passed I had to repeat it and I said Derrick. We both worked at the VA Hospital, every time he saw me in the locker room.
We would speak and some time's it be came a lengthy conversation.
Glad to know Derrick.

Doreen, Cassie and family,
Derrick was a wonderful person, so full of life and love for his family. Everyone at Providence Cristo Rey was shocked and saddened to hear about his passing. We know that he is with God now and will always be looking down upon you like a Guardian Angel. Our sincerest condolences. We are keeping you in our daily prayers.

Doreen, I was heartbroken to hear about Derrick. He was a special person and although I haven't seen him very often since my retirement, the times that I did, I so enjoyed my chats with him, and seeing that beautiful smile. He always called out "Teacher!" whenever he saw me - - I will miss that so much! My deepest condolences to you and your family.
