Despina (Ress) Venetos, age 94; of Chicago, fell asleep in the Lord on October 19, 2025. Despina the daughter of Dimitri and Eleni Ress and was born in Kallithea, Athens, Greece on January 7, 1931. Despina was married to Michael (Maki) Venetos for 68 years. Despina graduated from the Athens Music Conservatoire, teaching piano lessons in Greece before getting married and moving to Chicago.

Despina loved taking care of her husband and sons and could be found cooking them delicious meals daily. Despina was the best baker, no one could make koulouri or galaktoboureko like her. She enjoyed sewing, playing piano well into her 80s, and chatting with her sister and sister in-laws. She had an infectious laugh which brought smiles and joy to all around her.

Despina was a parishioner of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and had a deep faith, always praying for her family and friends.

Despina is survived by her husband, Maki, and her children Jim (Anna) Venetos, Isidore (Rinoula) Venetos, her grandchildren Michael (Erin) Venetos, John Venetos, her siblings Elizabeth (the late Sathis) Spanos, Dino (Elizabeth) Ress, John (Lia) Ress, , the late Stavros (Haris) Ress, and her brothers & sisters-in-laws the late Konstantine (Pota) Venetos, Lela (the late Mimis) Moutzouros, Hectora Venetos, and many loved nieces, nephews, and god daughter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greek American Nursing Home (220 1st St, Wheeling, IL 60090) or St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (2727 W Winona St, Chicago, IL 60625).

Visitation Friday, October 24 at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2727 W Winona, Chicago from 9:30AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:30AM. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove.
