Destiny Ammon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clements Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc - Durham on Dec. 26, 2025.
Destiny Lynn Ammon was born prematurely on January 21, 2014 at a tiny 4.5 pounds. Her biological mother Denise loved her so much, but unfortunately did not have the necessary support to care for a child with sickle cell disease. At nine months old, Destiny entered the home of loving foster parents Gary and Linda. She began to receive regular blood transfusions and spent long days at Duke Children's Hospital with her foster parents and sometimes a DSS social worker. It was on one of these days that Nurse Chelse introduced Destiny to her future mom Kristen. The rest, as they say, is history!
Destiny came to live with the Ammon Family on September 30, 2015. Christopher, Elias, and Ethan became her instant daddy and brothers. Their lives were forever changed! Kristen and Christopher were granted legal guardianship of Destiny on November 2, 2016, but were determined to pursue adoption. After fundraising, jumping through many legal hoops, and undergoing a lot of sanctifying work by their heavenly Father, the Ammon's adopted Destiny Lynn Ammon into their family on October 11, 2019.
Destiny was a quiet, dainty girl with an inner strength and bravery unknown to most adults. Her sickle cell disease caused fatigue, pain, and led to more emergency room visits than she could count. Shortly before her tenth birthday, Destiny was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and was forced to endure even more testing, scans, pokes, and treatments. She rarely complained and remained more focused on getting back to school to be with her teachers and friends.
Destiny loved to ride her bike, read, write, and explore outdoors. While shy to most, she was quite affectionate and never short on questions. She could be forgetful, but never forgot a friend or family member's birthday. Her smile could light up a room, and her giggling could warm up the coldest of hearts.
On Monday, December 22, while celebrating Christmas with extended family at her grandmother's lake house, Destiny collapsed suddenly and unexpectedly shortly after 4 pm. Despite immediate care provided by her family and responding EMS, she was unable to be revived. After transport to the local hospital, she was declared dead at 5:32 pm. We now know, after expert assessment by Duke Hospital pathologists, that she had suffered a massive brain aneurysm and died almost instantly.
The sunset that evening was incomparably beautiful, comforting many in the knowledge that the heavens had opened up to receive our precious girl. She left behind her mother Kristen, father Christopher, brothers Elias and Ethan, and countless other loving extended family members. She will be missed by her best girl buddies Lizzie, Annabel, Veda, and Callie, as well as her neighborhood friends Rose, Aubrey, and Nala. We want to thank the numerous nurses, doctors, and healthcare team members who adored Destiny and worked tirelessly to care for her and ensure that she flourished. It is clear that the Lord provided for Destiny at every turn, yet mysteriously called her back to Himself, where she now lives as a precious daughter in the glory and splendor of her Heavenly Father.
