Deverett Alexander Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Dec. 12, 2025.
Deverett Alexander, a cherished mother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 73 in Bradenton, FL after a courageous battle with COPD. Born on July 10, 1952, in North Tonawanda, NY to the late Everett Russell and Elizabeth Smith she lived in NY for her childhood and early adulthood. She moved to Bradenton in 1977 and lived there for many years before moving to Palmetto. Deverett spent her early years surrounded by the warmth of her family, including her brothers, Bill Russell and Jeffrey Russell and the late Dennis Russell. Her childhood in North Tonawanda laid a strong foundation the intelligent and spirited woman she would become. Deverett's life was further blessed with the arrival of her beloved daughter Jamie Battles, who, along with her husband Mike, brought immense joy and pride to Deverett's heart. She retired from the USDA in 2015 where she performed many duties that kept the office humming. She was respected for her intelligence and unwavering commitment to excellence. She completed many training classes and received multiple promotions in her time there. She also made some lifelong friends there that she cherished. She was a devoted dog lover, who always had at least one dog by her side. Her artistic side found expression in the intricate beauty of stained glass, creating pieces that reflected her appreciation for light and color. Music too, was an integral part of her life, providing a soundtrack to her most treasured moments. She also enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Anna Maria Island. As we bid farewell to Deverett, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with her. Her memory will be in the hearts of her daughter Jamie Battles, her brothers, Bill and Jeffrey Russell, as well as her nieces and nephews and the friends she made along the way. Her journey on this earth has ended, but her story - etched in the lives of those she touched - will endure.
