Devin Woodland Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Welch Funeral Home - Marks Chapel on Oct. 11, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Devin Nicole Woodland. It is with hearts completely broken that we share the loss of our beloved daughter, Devin Nicole Woodland, 29, of Tappahannock. Our sweet Devin was taken from us far too soon in an automobile accident on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Devin was a lifelong resident of Tappahannock, the cherished daughter of William "Earl" Coates and Elsie Carol Johnson Coates, and the devoted wife of Nathan Kendrick Woodland. Devin was a graduate of Essex High School, and a gentle, patient preschool teacher at Kindercare East, where "Miss Devin" was adored by both children and staff alike. Her smile could brighten the dullest moments, and her kindness left loving impressions on all.
From the time she was small, Devin had a tender soul and a deep love for all living things. A true country girl, she found wonder in the simplest parts of life; the woods and fields that surrounded her home, the animals that lived in those woods and fields, the soft nuzzle of her pets, and the quiet beauty of nature's rhythm. The animals in the woods and pastures were her friends, and she treated every creature with the same compassion she gave to people. That gentle heart followed her all through life, shaping her into a woman whose kindness radiated wherever she went.
Devin's greatest joy and proudest role was being "Mom." Her three children: Boston River, Stephanie Layla, and Donovan Leo were her heart. She loved them beyond measure, and cherished their laughter, hugs, and dreams.
Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Nathan; her parents, Earl and Elsie; her beloved children, Boston, Stephanie, and Donovan; her godparents, Allison and Dougie Carter; dear family friend June Baird; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will hold her forever in their hearts.
May our precious Devin rest in eternal peace, her beautiful light never dimmed but shining now from above. May her friends and community help keep her spirit alive - sharing her stories, her laughter, and her love - as we surround her children with the warmth of her memory. Please continue to talk about her to us and to each other and share your photos and memories so that her light will always live on.
A Celebration of Life for Devin will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dunbrooke on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pastor Jamie Segar will officiate. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Devin's lifelong love of animals by making a donation in her memory to the Essex County Animal Shelter, 540 Airport Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
Please feel free to leave some of your favorite memories or photos of Devin in the tribute section here on the funeral web page. Her family takes so much joy in hearing everyone's loving recollections of her.
