In Loving Memory of DeWayne Mario LiGans Sr.

Sunrise: November 5 , 1963 – Sunset: June 21, 2025, Age: 61

DeWayne Mario Ligans, a beloved father, devoted family man, and proud Marine, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was a source of strength, humor, and unwavering love to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents; James & Pearl Bowles, Robert LiGans & Pearl Johnson. Parent; Robert Dean Bowles. He’s survived by his Mother; Barabara Bowles, Sisters; Scheriee Bowles & Dawn-Ray Speights, Brothers; Brian Bowles & Juan Bowles, in Columbus, Ohio.

He is also preceded in death by Anita R. LiGans & Va’Quez LiGans (Grandson) & Shawn Thompson (Cousin).

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, DeWayne graduated from Mifflin High School in 1982, where he was known for his bright spirit and athletic talent. He was a standout basketball player for the Mifflin Cow Punchers, wearing his jersey with pride and determination.

DeWayne proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the discipline, courage, and honor that would carry through every aspect of his life. After his military service, he returned home and built a strong career at 7UP, dedicating over 15 years of loyal service.

But above all, DeWayne’s greatest pride and joy was his family. A loving father, he poured his heart into raising his children, Geneava LiGans, Dewayne LiGans Jr., Amber LiGans, Asia LiGans, Djuan Terry, always putting them first and guiding them with wisdom and kindness. His deep love for his family extended far beyond his immediate circle—he was an uncle, a brother, and a friend who showed up for others with consistency and care.

Later in life, DeWayne made a profound commitment of faith and was baptized, a decision that brought him great peace and purpose. His faith, much like his character, was quiet but powerful—rooted in love, humility, and resilience.

DeWayne will be remembered for his infectious laugh, gentle heart, and the pride he took in every role he played—from Marine to father, athlete to mentor. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

He is deeply loved and will be forever missed.
