Deweese Copher

Deweese Copher, 77, passed away Friday following a short illness. He was born August 5, 1947 to the late Clark and Lula Yarber Copher. He was a farmer and Co-owner of C&S Western Wear in Owingsville and a Vietnam Veteran, but during his life he dedicated much of his time to the advancement of agriculture in his community. He served on several of the local boards including Southern States, Farm Credit Services and the Conservation Boards, but also served on the Huntington Interstate Milk Company board. He was a 4-H Leader and was instrumental in the success of the Diamond-H Saddle Club and was a founder of the Sharon Copher Memorial Horse Show in memory of his late wife. He was also a founding member of the Eastern Kentucky Quarter Horse Association and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. In 1995, all of his many efforts in the agriculture industry led to him being awarded Bath County Farmer of the Year.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Glenna Copher of Owingsville; two sons Chad Copher and Ebony (Jessica) Copher all of Owingsville; two brothers Alton and Douglas Copher both of Owingsville; and three grandchildren Isabella Copher, Ava Copher and Harper Copher.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children Sharon Copher; five brothers Ralph Copher, Whitten Copher, Lewis Copher, Oscar Copher, and J.T. Copher; and three sisters Beulah Vance, Emma Lee Bailey, and Eulala Donohue.

Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Owingsville First Church of God. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Owingsville First Church of God with the Reverend Lowell Rice and Reverend Shawn Tolle presiding. Burial to follow in the Owingsville Cemetery with military rites performed by Mount Sterling American Legion.
