Dewey Bartlett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford / Ray Funeral Home on Jan. 20, 2026.
Dewey H. Bartlett, age 82, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service to others.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Dewey was the son of the late Ernest R. Bartlett and the late Lilly Mae Fore Bartlett. He spent his life working hard, loving deeply, and sharing his faith boldly. For more than forty years, Dewey was a respected plumbing contractor, known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone in need.

In his younger years, Dewey enjoyed coaching football and was an avid hunter. Above all else, his greatest passion in life was telling people about Jesus. His faith shaped every part of who he was, and he devoted his life to ministry and Christian service. Dewey served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and song director for over 60 years, touching countless lives through teaching and music. He also served as principal of Swannanoa Christian Academy for 20 years, where he was deeply loved and respected for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to Christian education.

Dewey was preceded in death by his devoted wife of forty-one years, Judy S. Bartlett, as well as his brothers Jack Bartlett, Lewis Bartlett, Harold Bartlett, Clarence Bartlett, and his sisters Pauline Silvers and Lois Rich.

He is survived by his beloved son, Dewey Randall Bartlett, and daughter-in-law Tammy; his brother Charles Bartlett; his stepdaughter Kimberly Powell Ragan (husband Charles) and stepson Kevin Powell (wife Karen). He also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren: Bryan Powell, Christopher Clemons, Jennifer Bartlett Thomas, Bridget Powell, Chelsea Powell, Tiffany LaRonge, Hannah Bartlett Whitfield, and Haley Bartlett McDevitt, along with fourteen cherished great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Swannanoa Valley Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Jim Dykes will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Dewey will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his kind and generous heart, and his dedication to both his family and his calling to serve the Lord. His life was guided by his favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose." His testimony will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

Dewey was such a blessing to our family and to our small farm in Chunns Cove. As he worked, he whistled hymns which I found to be uplifting and
soul nourishing. He was so special, and we...one and all...were blessed to
share times with him. Gratefully.
