DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA

Dewey Nelson Dotson

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dewey "Bud" Nelson Dotson, 88, on Monday, September 1, 2025. Dewey was born on November 20, 1936, to the late Rollie Conner Dotson and Richard Nelson Dotson in Buncombe County, North Carolina. In 1955, he was introduced to the love of his life, Wilma Ruth Lawter. Dewey and Wilma married on December 18, 1956. Dewey and Wilma raised two children, Ricky and Tony. Dewey was a hard working man and a proud father. He also loved being known as "Pepa" by his 3 grandchildren. He spent many weekends toting his grandkids to Riverview Inn for flounder and fishing at Moss Lake (even though no one ever caught a fish). With the same patience and love, he created lifelong memories by birdwatching, walking through the garden together, and giving driving lessons, never rushing and always encouraging.

Dewey was a proud member of the United States Navy. Thereafter, he was owner and mechanic at Highway 74 Imports in Kings Mountain, NC.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Tony; grandson Jeff; granddaughters Kim(Larry) and Shelby(Aaron); sisters Nancy and Hazel(Rodger); nephew Alan; nieces Amy, Jennifer(Brian) and Rhonda(Brenden); and numerous family members and friends. Bud was predeceased in death by his wife, Wilma; eldest son, Ricky; sister Edith; brothers-in-law Paul and Jerry.

A Private family graveside service at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dewey's honor to the Navy League of the United States.
