Dewey Stanton Gunter, 89, of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully with his family by his side on 5/27/23 after a prolonged illness.
Dewey was born in Greensboro NC and served in the Korean War through the Navy (1951-1954) on the USS IOWA BB 61 and was awarded three medals with one star. Post military, he resided in Willimantic, Ct working at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Ct and also as owner/operator of Lynch Paving. In 1978 he went to work as a construction supervisor in Saudi Arabia for 8 yrs. Upon returning to the USA, he worked for Zlotnick Construction until his retirement.
Having a hard-working servant's heart, Dewey was always willing to help anyone with a smile and chuckle. A devoted family man, he loved working with his hands, taking long walks and sitting watching nature in his backyard.
Dewey is predeceased by his parents, Vera Gunter Moore & James Earl Gunter and 10 brothers/sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Barbara Gunter; son Michael (Kathy) Gunter, Stepchildren Jim (Nancy) Chamberlin, Lisa (Jason) Major; and seven grandchildren Garrett & Dewey Gunter II, Anna, Garrett & Kaleb Chamberlin, Cole and Jacob Major as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and beloved friends.
Mrs. Gunter would like to extend a special "thank-you" to the caring staff at Davita Dialysis located at 420 S. Nova Rd in Ormond Beach. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Kidney Fund – https://www.kidneyfund.org
A Family Hosted Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
