Dewey Samuel Lowery Sr. of South Boston, VA, passed away on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at the age of 86. Dewey was born in Halifax County on January 17th, 1939 and was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis T. Lowery and Henrietta Belle Conner Lowery. He is survived by his wife, Josephine "Jo" Martin Lowery and his previous wife, Jane Sheppard.
After serving honorably in the United States Army, Dewey embarked on a successful career as an electrician with ABB, now Hitachi, where his expertise and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He retired having contributed many years of skillful service, and his legacy as a master of his trade will be remembered fondly. Dewey was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he previously served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, and along with his wife, Jo, attended as long as health allowed.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; a son, Sam Lowery (Sandra); grandchildren, Lydia Lowery and Dylan Lowery; siblings, Bernice "Bun" Lowery, Ernest "Hooks" Lowery (Nancy), Fred Lowery (Brenda) and Faye Conner (Steve); step daughter, Kelly Wilson Wilborn (Tony); step grandchildren, Brooke W. Talley, Blake C. Wilson, Chris Wilborn & Lesley Jaimes (Brian); and step great grandchildren, Carter, Bridget, Oliver, Jax, Harley & Elijah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Beulah Mae Owen and Mary Magdaline Lowery; his brother, Lloyd Thomas Lowery and a stepson, Randy D. Wilson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 17th, 2025 in the Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1058 Buckshoal Road, Virgilina, VA 24598 in Dewey's memory.
