Four Oaks: Mr. Dewey Howard Stephenson, Jr, age 90, joined his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 while surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Four Oaks City Cemetery. Reverend Adam Charville and Reverend Joey Yow will officiate.
Mr. Stephenson was born in Johnston County, NC to the late Howard and Ruth Stephenson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Patricia Bundy and Dorothy Parker. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer and he loved to travel with his sweet Barbara.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Ann Oberholtzer Stephenson, two sons, Thomas Stephenson and wife Beth of Clayton, NC, Michael Stephenson and wife Anita of Four Oaks, NC, one daughter, Debbie Holloman and husband Don of Pine Level, NC, two grandsons, Richard Stephenson and wife Lori of Benson, NC, Patrick Stephenson of Columbia, SC, and sisters, Janice Southerland and husband Sherwood of Smithfield, NC, Becky Renfrow and husband Ed of Smithfield, NC, Callie Jones of Smithfield, NC and many nieces and nephews.
After serving 22 years in the US Air Force, Dewey retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1972. He continued his career as Chairman of the business department at Johnston Community College over the next 22 years of his life. Mr. Stephenson was instrumental in building the business program at JCC, including the addition of the computer technology program. His calling was teaching and he loved helping young people through their education. He was known for his amazing storytelling in the classroom and when he gathered with family and friends.
Dewey was a deeply spiritual man whose faith touched many people. He was a member of Four Oaks United Methodist Church and former member of First Assembly of God in Smithfield. He was a loving husband and provider and a wonderful father who encouraged his children to grow and be independent.
There will be an open-door visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC. The family will not be present during this time.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
The family wishes to thank special caregivers, Sarah, Mary, Jeanine & Sharon for all their love shown to Dewey during his illness. They also wish to express thanks to Jenny Johnson and Transitions LifeCare for their care and support.
