Diana Williams Green, 73, of Richlands, Va., passed away on August 25, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones when she passed.

Diana "Dede" was born on March 13, 1949, to Carol Hart Williams and William Reese Williams in Cedar Bluff, Va. After graduating from Stuart Hall Academy in 1967, Dede went on to achieve a degree in American Studies from Skidmore and Duke Universities. She then attained her graduate degree in medical records administration at Johns Hopkins. After graduation, she managed the medical records department at Mattie Williams Hospital in Richlands.

She was an active member of the Tazewell Garden Club, Main Street United Methodist Church, Tazewell County Citizens for the Arts and was an early booster and volunteer for the fledgling Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour.

In 1969 she met the love of her life, Charles Edward Green III of Tazewell, Va., and they wed in 1977, going on to have three wonderful children, Charles IV, Carol, and Garland.

Dede dedicated her life towards being the toughest, yet classiest, mother and wife. Her goal was to love her family more than she loved herself and she died a champion.

Despite not being a golfer herself, she was an avid superfan and curator of the family foursome known simply as "The Greens." She never missed an important event in her children's lives, instilled in each of them a sense of honesty and humility and was the rock on which they all built their foundation. Her determination and strength knew no equal.

Dede was predeceased by her brother, William Reese Williams Jr., and is survived by her two sisters, Anne Williams (Jake) Welch and Carol Williams (Bruce) Hall; her three children, her husband, as well as her five grandchildren, James, JJ, Preston, Kate and Molly.

In recognition of her passion and dedication to junior golf in Southwestern Virginia, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the New River Valley Junior Golf Association. A celebration of the life for Diana "Dede" Green will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Tom Conley officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. until time of service.
