Diane Marie (Johnson) Bubel, 75, of Center, ND passed away on Thursday, August 15th, 2024, after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Center, ND on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm CT. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 21st, beginning at 11am CT with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at the Center Community Cemetery along with a luncheon at the Betty Hagel Memorial Civic Center in Center.
Diane was born March 15th, 1949, to Obert & Phoebe Johnson in Williston, ND. Diane and her family moved around a lot with her father’s occupation until settling in the Center, ND area in June 1964. Diane graduated from Center High School in 1967 as Salutatorian. She continued her education at Dickinson State College in Dickinson, ND from 1967-1968 and then to Capital Community College in Bismarck, ND from 1968-1969 for Secretarial Administration.
On March 20th, 1970, she married Howard Bubel from Center, ND. Diane moved with her husband to Adams, ND from 1971 to 1973 returning to Center, ND. On April 21st, 1974, they had a son named J.D. and soon after, on March 16th, 1976, their daughter Jodi was born.
Diane worked various jobs throughout her life. She worked as a secretary with the USDA Soil Conversation Service, a timekeeper for Industrial Contractors Incorporated (ICI) on power plant outages, JH Kelly, and as a receptionist for Social Services at the Oliver County Courthouse. The biggest career was her being a stay-at-home mom. Diane also was the secretary/bookkeeper for numerous businesses of Bubel Photo, JDJ Custom Insulation, Bubel Buffalo Ranch & Bubel Timed Event, LLC.
Diane’s talents included leatherwork, woodworking signs, and crafting with her neighbor Shirely Bornemann. Gardening was another one of her favorite things to do. Diane was also a meticulous rodeo mom who kept track of times and scores not only for her kids but for everyone else.
Traveling was one of Diane’s favorite passions. She would never turn down a trip when asked by her friends. She would go with Howard to get cattle or taking cattle to a rodeo, as long as there was a casino to stop at on the way. Diane supported J.D. & Jodi in their sports and attended every event that she could. She also enjoyed going to her granddaughter Sheridan Bubel’s rodeos, volleyball & basketball events.
Diane is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard; her son, J.D. Bubel and wife Sara and daughter Sheridan; daughter, Jodi Bubel (Ron Baer); sister, Karen (Lyle) Mosbrucker; brothers, Gene Johnson & Daron (Pierette) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents (Obert and Phoebe Johnson), & brother (Kevin Johnson).
