Diane Mary Cartter (Lanzetta) was born on December 16, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan and passed into eternity on April 5, 2025 in Walled Lake, Michigan.
Diane went to elementary school at St. Scholastica Catholic School and graduated from Mercy High School in Detroit in 1960. She spent one year in college at University of Detroit and liked to say that she majored in pinochle at the student union. In her adult life she worked many jobs: A writer for the Walled Lake Chronicle, and resident manager for Lake Village condominium
association. But perhaps the role of which she was most proud - aside from motherhood - was her position on the Walled Lake City Council, where she served four terms.
Diane was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending long hours with her family and never seemed to tire of her grandchildren's stories, even the ones she had heard time and time again. Diane's home was, and will remain, a gathering place for her family and friends, where she delighted her guests with home cooked meals, elaborate celebrations at every holiday, and conversations that could go late into the night. An avid gardener, her flower beds were always colorful and pristinely-kept.
In the spring and summer months, Diane rarely missed a game of the Detroit Tigers, attending in person when she could, and always watching on TV when she couldn't. She was also a lover of animals, particularly dogs and horses of which she owned quite a few. She was an active member at St. William Catholic Church, where she served on the worship commission and
banner committee, sewing ornate banners to decorate the nave of the church. Additionally, she gave her time, love, and counsel as confirmation sponsor for her eldest grandchild, Daniel.
Finally, Diane will perhaps be remembered most for her generosity and charity. What she had to give, she gave freely, for the good of all who were ever in need.
Diane is preceded in her journey home by her parents, Josephine (Terranova) and Alfred Lanzetta and first husband, James Geoffrey. She is survived by her husband William Cartter IIl; three sons James Geoffrey II, Scott Geoffrey (Elizabeth) and William Cartter IV (Amanda); six grandchildren Daniel (Sally-Jo), Meghan, Shannon, Tara, Natalie and Bridgett; two dogs; and
many friends.
