Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium on Aug. 25, 2025.
Diane Marie Curtis, age 76, was the beloved wife to the late Daniel Curtis, cherished daughter of the late Robert and the late Rose Cummings, loving mom of Melissa Curtis and Steve (Yvette) Curtis, proud gramma of Maura and Brendan, dear sister to Karen (Bob) Quinn, late Roberta (Bill) Marek, and Robert (Patti) Cummings, sister-in-law to the late Jim Curtis, fond aunt and great-aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, cousin and friend to many, and will be greatly missed by all. Diane was born in Chicago, IL on October 29, 1948. She grew up on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Visitation High School in 1966. After graduation, she worked for Illinois Bell for several years until the birth of her second child, after which she stayed home to raise her children. Once both children started elementary school, Diane began working at Hubert H. Humphrey (HHH) Middle School. She initially worked in the kitchen, ensuring she was home before and after school. Later, she transitioned to the role of secretary to the Deans at Humphrey. Diane retired from HHH after 32 years of dedicated service. In 1973, Diane and Dan moved to Bolingbrook, where they lived in the same house for over 52 years. Diane was very involved in the Bolingbrook community. She served as a CCD teacher at St. Francis of Assisi Church, participated in the Park District by playing softball and coaching baseball, led a Girl Scout troop at Oak View Elementary School, worked the concession stand at BHS sporting events, and coached the Pom-Pom Squad at Bolingbrook High School. There wasn't anywhere she could go without running into someone she knew. Outside of career and community, the greatest loves of Diane's life were her family. She was the high school sweetheart and loving wife of Daniel Curtis for 50 years. Diane was the beloved mother of Melissa and Steve, who often joked about how lucky she was to have them, but they were the lucky ones to have a mom like her. She was thrilled to welcome her favorite daughter-in-law, Yvette, to the family. She was the most enthusiastic Gramma Di to Maura and Brendan. She was truly her family's biggest fan and cheerleader. Diane loved sharing news, stories, and pictures, and she treasured every single moment spent with her children and grandchildren and extended family, including her siblings, her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Diane had a wide circle of wonderful friends. Diane always took the time to get to know every person she met. To know her was to love her. And she loved everyone in return. Diane loved anything and everything Irish, Neil Diamond, Da Bears, Harry Potter, Papa's Pizza, Pepsi, Portillos, Broadway Musicals, Jeopardy!, Bunco, Disney Villains, chocolate, chicken pot pie, Halloween, Barbies, Belleek Irish China, shamrocks, fairy crowns, holiday themed socks and her home in Bolingbrook. When you experience any of those things, please think affectionately of her. Please dress for a celebration of life as you would for a party or in her favorite color green. If you knew Diane, you know she was quite the storyteller! Please feel free to jot down your favorite story or memory of Diane, the most social of butterflies. There will be paper available and a box at the wake for you to share your story (or feel free to bring one with you).. Her family will love and cherish them as they grieve this immense loss. Her visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m., located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 West Boughton Road,
Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. Her chapel service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private cremation to follow. She will be placed to rest next to her husband at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to
American Lung Association (ALA) in Diane's memory. Flowers fade but helping someone in need never does. Please use the following link if wanting to make a donation: https://www.lung.org/ Funeral arrangements entrusted to McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home and Crematorium.
