Diane Grier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Community Mortuary on Jan. 27, 2026.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Atsuko Grier Uyeji, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great aunt, who passed away on January 21, 2026 in San Diego, CA. Diane was the youngest of four children born on November 18, 1959 to Kikuo and Yoshimi Uyeji, who resided in Lincoln Acres, California.

Diane loved life and making her mark on this world her way from her early childhood at Palmer Way Elementary through her teenage days at Granger Middle School and then Sweetwater High School in National City, California.

Diane was a rare woman; one you would not forget easily. She lived her life on her own terms. She was smart, sincere, and with an angelic heart, she was the best friend you could ever have. Worrying too much was one of her biggest weaknesses because deep down she had a gentle soul that cared about everyone. Though she sometimes spoke hurtful truths, she would rather be completely honest than fake and nice. The pain of Diane's past made her more cautious, but also stronger. Toxic people and fake friends had no place in her life. Her trust was a precious gift that should not be betrayed. When you were with her, she always made you feel like part of the family, which created unforgettable memories, and she was the person that would give you the shirt off her back to help you!

In recent years, Diane's role as a grandmother brought her so much joy and happiness, her grandchildren - Jhene, Julian, and Isaiah and her step grandchildren -Mateo, Rolando, and Andrew being the light of her life.

Preceded in death by her father, mother, and eldest sister, Ruby Furuoka (Dennis), Diane is survived by her two sons, James and Keith "Keither" Grier (Cynthia), her older sister, Chieko Takeguchi (Henry), her older brother Victor Ken Uyeji (Cindy), her nieces and nephews - Julie, Emi, Lori, Nicholas, Mathew, Corina, Sydney, Booba, Reese, Tederal, Sissy, LP, Rocky, Raylene, and Eric, her granddaughter and grandsons, Jhene, Julian, Isaiah, Mateo, Rolando, and Andrew, as well as, several great-nieces, and great-nephews.

As we say goodbye to Diane, we take comfort in the knowledge that she has found peace. Her legacy is forever etched in our memories and hearts of those that knew her. We will miss her but are grateful for the time we had with her and the memories that she has imprinted on our hearts and minds.
