Diane Grocki Obituary
Diane Holstein Grocki passed away on March 17th, as the sun rose and the birds sang, with her family by her side. She was born on August 16, 1946 in tiny Powellton, West Virginia.
Diane was the loving wife of Kenneth Grocki, sharing over 50 years of marriage. She was the most amazing mother of Jamie Grocki, Amy Higgs, and the late Scott Grocki-Alexander. She was a wonderful mother-in-law to Jenny Grocki-Alexander and Mary DuLaney-Grocki.
Diane always had a love for learning and became a teacher at age nineteen. She achieved her Masters in Education from Towson in her forties. She was a dedicated Special Education Teacher in Carroll County for over 25 years beginning at St. John's Catholic School and retiring from Catholic Charities, where she worked with early intervention special needs students. Countless lives were touched by her passion for teaching and by her kind and loving care for her students.
A quintessential dance mom, Diane spent hours and hours over many years sewing elastic on shoes, making costumes, and doing updos for Amy and her classmates through ten years of dance at Medora Lynn's Ballet Slipper.
A supportive sports mom cheering from the stands, she loved watching Jamie play football, basketball, and lacrosse.
Her pride burst at watching her first-born Scott fulfill his dreams and fascinate audiences as he grew from a young performer to a professional magician.
She spent summers at the Westminster Riding Club chatting with friends, soaking up sun and rooting for Scott, Amy, and Jamie on the swim team.
Diane was a doting and fun grandmother to her seven beautiful grandchildren Jack, Nathan, Laken, Roxanne, Elizabeth, Aspen, and Sawyer. She was overjoyed to have each of them in her life and loved creating special memories with them. She was her happiest being with her family and grandchildren. Diane was determined to be on the sidelines and in auditoriums watching her grandchildren do what they love.
Her yearly summer girls' trips to Ocean City with her Westminster friends were precious memories. slamming oyster shooters at BJ's and always being the designated documentarian capturing all those crazy memories through her camera lens.
She loved her holiday dinners with her Baltimore friends, exchanging gifts and laughs.
She was a member of Carroll Artists Guild and was a very talented artist throughout her life. She enjoyed bird watching, photography, and shopping.
Her family promises to carry forward her holiday traditions passed down from generations, with a little pinch of this and that, and always posing for the perfect family photo.
Diane will be remembered for her kindness, her generous heart, her always perfect hair, makeup and outfit, her love and commitment to her family, and the vibrant friendships that lasted her whole life long.
There will be a Memorial Mass at St. John's Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21157 on Friday, April 12th at 11:30 am.
