SALEM - Mrs. Diane L. (Barone) Maione, 81, of Salem, passed away in the early hours on Saturday, March 19, 2022, surrounded by love at her home after a lengthy battle with COPD. Throughout it all, she remained her hilarious, playful, feisty, witty self, beloved by everyone who knew her.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Lento) Barone. Diane was predeceased by her three sisters, Carmella (Millie) Barone Nocera, Marie Iacoviello and Brenda (Jane) McGrath. She was a graduate of East Boston High School.
Mrs. Maione had been employed in the Accounting Department for the former New England Telephone Company later known as Nynex for over 33 years until the time of her retirement. While she excelled at her career and moved up through the ranks, her real passion was her family.
She met her husband Ernest on a steamy Sunday afternoon in August of 1962. From their very first date on Revere Beach they fell in love instantly spending almost every night together under the stars until the early morning hours. On May 4th, 1963 Diane married her best friend and sweetheart knowing their love would last a lifetime. Happily married for 59 years they created a beautiful life and family together. As a mother she was generous, loving and kind. She spoiled her one and only daughter Angela as much as she possibly could. Everything from bedtime stories, to hide and seek, teaching her how to cook family recipes including the Sunday sauce, drawing, painting, giving her the wooden spoon to lick when they made her famous pistachio cake, dancing around the house to Elvis and Paul Anka, shopping together, listening to the cardinals sing in the backyard and decorating the house at Christmastime they will forever be as thick as thieves. Diane's playful, charismatic, creative spirit and infectious laughter always lit up a room. She dedicated her life to her family and friends making sure they knew they were always loved and supported.
She enjoyed taking annual summer family trips to Lake George, New York and North Conway, New Hampshire making lifelong memories of their days exploring including spending time on the lake, swimming at the pool and adventuring to see many attractions. Diane will live forever in the hearts of her family and friends and will be deeply missed. She is her family's greatest gift. May her soul fly free, breathe easy, find peace, joy and endless love as she gains her wings and dances with the angels as they celebrate her.
Diane is survived by her husband, Ernest of Salem and her daughter, Angela Maione of Swampscott. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
