Diane Paul Obituary

Diane Margaret Paul
Diane Margaret Paul, age 73 of Midland, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her home with family by her side. The daughter of the late Tom and Ruth (Thering) Murphy was born April 23, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant where she was raised and educated. She graduated with both a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Mathematics from Central Michigan University. Diane began her career teaching math at Hemlock Middle School. After having children, she continued her career teaching Algebra at Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University. Always dedicated to her students, her children remember their mom answering student phone calls late at night and going above and beyond to help her students. Diane earned many teaching awards and was commended for making the journey of learning fun. On July 22, 1972, she married George Paul at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. They
shared 34 years together before his passing in February of 2007. Diane and George loved to travel together and enjoyed being with their children, friends and family. They were and are now a match made in heaven. Diane loved to socialize with people and was active in many different social groups in the Midland area. Her children were amazed at the many deep friendships she had with others. Diane was easy to talk with, always gave great advice and had a heart of gold. She enjoyed gathering with her group of high school friends called the Sha Sha's and her Midland friends called the Ya Ya's. Diane very much enjoyed meeting with friends on a regular basis to chat with at Starbucks and became devoted to her Bible Study group in Midland. In her earlier years, Diane loved to play in her golf league and organize ski trips.
Diane's favorite place was the family cottage at Lake Bellaire that she and her husband built and enjoyed making memories at for 33 wonderful years. There she loved to swim and host gatherings with her family that she loved dearly. Diane, being the oldest of six siblings and the matriarch of the family, loved to pack the cottage with family and friends and often felt the more the merrier. Her four granddaughters hold a very special place in her heart and always looked forward to "Grandma Days" with her grandchildren. On top of "Grandma Days", Diane always knew how to make the holidays special, warm and inviting for everyone. The memories Diane built with her family are countless as family was everything to her.
Surviving are her children, Brian (Kathryn) Paul of East Grand Rapids, Michele (Matthew) Eggleston of Ortonville; grandchildren Evelyn and Elsie Paul of East Grand Rapids, Samantha and Emelia Eggleston of Ortonville. Also surviving are her siblings, Maureen (Gary) Rondy of Mt. Pleasant, Patrick (Shelly) Murphy of Livonia, MI, Kathy (Mark) Parks of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Judy (Tim) Lannen of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Diane is survived by many nieces and nephews. Diane will be forever missed. In addition to her parents and husband, Diane was preceded in death by her brother John Murphy of
Mt. Pleasant.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland. Fr. Rob Howe will be celebrant with rite of committal to follow in Midland City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of Mass. A wake service will be held for Diane at 7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be offered to Samaritan's Purse.
