Diane Marie Self

1951 - 2022

Diane Marie Self, age 70 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Poppen Residence Hospice Harbor House. She was born on July 3, 1951, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Harold and Audrey (Burkall) Neiser. Diane married Eldon Self on November 2, 1974, in Muskegon, Michigan.

Diane graduated from Mona Shores High School, later moving to the Grand Haven area, where she lived most of her life. She worked as a nurse assistant at Hackley Hospital. Diane and her mother taught ceramics for over 30 years and made cabbage patch dolls and clothing, which they sold at craft fairs. She taught Sunday school for 28 years and was also in the choir.

Diane was a huge supporter of her boys in their hockey and football days. She coordinated spaghetti dinners for the teams during the boys' time in high school. Diane enjoyed doing puzzles and word searches, and was known for her cooking, her heart and taking care of others, especially her grandchildren.

Diane is lovingly remembered and missed by her beloved husband of 47 years, Eldon; her two sons, Kevin (Elizabeth) Self and Michael (April) Self; five grandchildren: Teia Perez, Carter Self, Damien Self, Connor Self and Brennan Self; her sisters: Gloria (Larry) Ross, Marcia (Rick) Norstrom and Janene (Steve) Start; brothers-in-law: Edwin (Charlotte) Self, Elwood (Carol) Self, Elliott (Melaine) Self; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her in-laws, the Rev. Erwin and Leona Self.

The Funeral Service for Diane will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Trinity Reformed Church with the Rev. Edwin Self officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
